Mugello first hosted racing in the 1920s on a 40 mile public road circuit; in 1974 the circuit was constructed, lying in spectacular scenery in the hills of Tuscany. Ferrari has owned Mugello since 1988.

The circuit is 14 miles north of Florence and 50 miles south of Bologna.
