Racing in the area started at nearby Pebble Beach (now an exclusive golf course) early in the century and continued there until Laguna Seca opened in 1957. The track is one of the most testing in the USA and features the notorious Corkscrew blind corner.

Laguna Seca is located 118 miles south of San Francisco and 10 miles east of Monterey.
