The scenic Imola track was built in the 1950s in wooded parkland on the edge of Imola town. The track was reprofiled substantially with a number of chicanes after the death of Ayrton Senna here in 1994.

The circuit is situated in the north eastern suburbs of Imola, 20 miles south east of Bologna.
