Daytona has been a focus of racing since the beginning of the century. The beach itself was the venue until the International Speedway was built in 1959. It is a traditional US-style banked oval but features a twisty infield section used by the bikes. The 'Daytona 200' race forms part of 'Bike Week' held every March, but the race is rarely truly international in character today and is now almost incidental to the Bike Week shenanigans in Daytona Beach itself.
The International Speedway is situated 4 miles west of Daytona Beach, 45 miles north east of Orlando.
