FIM Boss Speaks About Endurance

Endurance TV Coverage “Increases”...

FIM's Vito Ippolito About Endurance

FIM President Vito Ippolito has just sent out a press release commenting on the various FIM activities. Here's what he had to say about the World Endurance Championship:

“Regarding the FIM Endurance Championship, for which the FIM itself is the promoter, we worked hard to improve this championship in a general way, its media coverage and the quality of the teams entered. Here again we have to continue in the same way and find how to reduce travel costs for teams travelling outside Europe. ”

So there you go. It might feel as though the championship is being run into the ground, but the FIM is working hard, so that's alright then.

Endurance TV Coverage “Increases”

The FIM have also sent out a press release proclaiming “that it is pursuing the development of the television broadcast of the Championship. In collaboration with Acid Sport (French TV Agency), Interzona (Spanish TV Agency) and with the support of MotorsTV, the FIM has signed contracts with the following broadcasters:

Europe:
MotorsTV: Pan European
Spain: Sogecable (Sportmania, Canal+ Deportes) and TV3.
Romania - Boom Sport TV.
The Balkans: Sport ADD (Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Slovenia, Macedonia).

South America:
ESPN Sur : Colombia, Peru, Chilli, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay.

Middle East: Al Jazeera”

If this means that all the round will be shown on subscription channel MotorsTV then it's a good thing. If it means that the French races will be shown live only on the French channels and that Albacete will only be shown on the Spanish channels – after all, Qatar is only on Al Jazeera – then I can't see how it will help European, American or Australian teams secure sponsorship.

It might look good on paper (“Look; endurance is on all these channels in all these countries!”) but it won't encourage teams from the UK, Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, etc, to join the championship.
