Team Agni's Rob Barber Wins TTXGP Pro Class 25:53.5 at 87.43mph Lap - Open Class Under Protest... The inaugural TTXGP race for electric powered motorcycles has been won by Team Agni rider Rob Barber, who lapped the Mountain circuit at just over 87mph. This broke the 50cc lap record set in 1967; a milestone achievement for non-internal-combustion machines.
Rob Barber's Team Agni TTXG bike during qualifying The first of the 13 starters away was Thomas Montano on the Mission Motors entry, but Barber took the lead on the road by Glenn Helen. The well publicised Motoczysx team were forced out by mechanical (electrical?) problems before reaching the first check point, allowing Team XXL's Thomas Schonfelder to move into second place by Glen Helen. They were in turn passed at Ballaugh by Isle of Man entered Team ManTTx, with Phase One's Jimmy McBride riding in place of injured Dan Keen. McBride was forced to retire at Glen Duff, handing second place in the race back to Schonfelder. By the time the leaders passed through Ramsey Barber was 90 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, but Schonfelder at least had the honour of posting the fastest top speed through the Sulby speed trap, at 106.5mph. Barber maintained his lead over the Mountain, finishing the single lap race in a time of 25 minutes 53.5 seconds, at an average speed of 87.434mph, to take victory in the Pro-Class. Second in the Pro-Class went to Schonfelder and third to Mark Buckley on the Team Brammo machine. The leading Open Class entry of Chris Petty on the Team Barefoot Motors machine slowed as he approached the finish line, allowing Chris Heath on the Team Electric Motorsport entry to take the lead and the class win, with Petty second and Manxman John Crellin third on the Team Tork bike. However it has since been announced the Heath has been disqualified, promoting petty to the win. The disqualification is currently under investigation and more news is expected shortly... Two riders, Chris Heath (Electric Motorsport) and Paul Dobbs (HTBlauva), who were originally disqualified, were unaware that they were required to sound horns while racing under yellow flags and the overall result was not in any way influenced by their actions."
