Tragedy Hits After Second Lap Crash...

Team Yoshimura Van Zon Suzuki, with riders Olivier Depoortere and Werner Daemen, won the inaugural Bikers Cup Spa 8 Hour endurance race last Saturday (16th August), ahead of second placed Team BHR Metiss and third placed Jadoul Motorsport. The privately entered BMW HP2 Sport of Stephane Mertens, Sebastien Legrelle and Thomas Hinterreiter finished in fourth place. Dropping in between second and third place in the 1000cc class the 600cc winning team of Gregory Fastre and Bastien Mackels on the Campus Francorchamps Yamaha R6

However, the race was marred by an accident on the second lap.

Tragically, rider Adrien Nicholas lost his life in the Centre Hospitalier Peltzer - La Tourelle after sustaining serious injuries in the crash. With his brother Christophe, Adrien had looked forward to racing in the 8 hour event, spending ours preparing for the race and producing Team Nicholas t-shirts for the entire squad. Our thoughts are now with his brother, friends and family.

This is not the return to motorcycle endurance racing at Spa Francorchamps that any of us would have wished for, but hopefully we will see long distance events permanently back on the Belgian circuit in the future.
