Donald Wins Superstock TT – Anstey Wins Supersport TT 1

Plater 8th in STK for Phase One, 2nd in SSP – Guy Martin: “Mustn't Grumble...”

Scottish Life International Superstock TT

Australian Cameron Donald took the win in today's Scottish Life International Superstock TT race on his Relentless by TAS Suzuki GSX-R1000, his second TT victory coming just two days after he dominated the Dainese Superbike race.

Second was 13-times TT winner John McGuinness and third Guy Martin.

Speaking afterwards, Donald said, “This one everyone was in. The guys had a bit of bad luck on Saturday and I have got so much respect for John and Guy, this is just brilliant. The Suzuki just works so well. This is really special.”

McGuinness, on the podium for the 26th time at the TT, said, “I didn’t know what to expect with the Superstock bike. I have never really been a lover of them, but I’m getting to like them! The bike was brilliant and I made a good start. I was a bit cautious through the mist and dropped a bit of time. To finish second is just brilliant. The bike was a winner, it was me, I just wasn’t sharp enough.”

Third-placed Martin said, “I’m not happy with third, I wanted to win. I think I got the quickest lap on the last lap so it was the best of a bad job I suppose. I just kept plugging away and plugging away. I should have pushed a bit harder. Third, yeah I suppose I have to be happy enough. Mustn’t grumble.”

Phase One's Steve Plater finished in 8th place, less than two minutes behind the winner. Team manager Russell Benney: “We had a long pitstop – 56 seconds rather than the typical 45 seconds – while Steve changed his gloves, but the fresh gloves gave him more front-end feel and allowed him to up the pace. This was a great result for Steve and the team, rounded off by Steve finishing second in this afternoon's Supersport 1 race on the AIM Yamaha.

“We're now gearing up for the next practice session on Wednesday afternoon, when Michael Dunlop and Mark Buckley will be back out on our bikes getting ready for Friday's Senior TT. We're going to try a few set-up changes, but the Island is the sort of place where it's impossible to get the bike right for the whole circuit so if it doesn't work we'll be happy to go with the setting we've already got. Michael Dunlop is a real racer's racer and I'm looking forward to the Senior on Friday.”

Relentless Supersport Junior Race One

Update: Anstey Disqualified, Plater Wins: Full Story Here...

Relentless by TAS Suzuki did it again this afternoon, but this time Kiwi Bruce Anstey took to the top step of the podium.

Bruce AnsteyAfter retiring from the Superstock race feeling ill, Anstey admitted he wasn’t sure about even starting the Relentless Supersport Junior Race One on Monday afternoon.

However, he took his place on the start line and then blasted around the famous TT circuit – smashing the Supersport record on his way to victory. At the line at the end of four laps Anstey took victory by more than 21 seconds, from Plater, who had snatched the runners-up spot from McGuinness by just three seconds.

Behind the leading trio, Amor, Farquhar and Ian Lougher filled the top five, separated by just 3 seconds.

Anstey said, “I was so disappointed this morning, I was really struggling to hang on to the Superstock and thought it would be safest to pull in. I was actually thinking about not going out, I thought I would save my strength until Wednesday. But I thought I have the fastest bike and might as well use it. I went hard on the first lap and after that I just tried to enjoy myself to the end.”

Second place Plater said, “I couldn’t believe it when I pulled up and they put me in second place. It is just awesome, I cannot believe what I have done. I need to go for a walk on my own and let it sink in.”

McGuinness, taking the 27th TT podium of his career, said, “It was great. I made a good start and was in the ballpark until Glen Helen, when Bruce went into second gear! After the pit stop oil started coming out of the steering damper. It was all over my visor and inside the screen and the bike was a bit of a handful to ride. I had to let it go. I wanted the win, but had to bring the bike home safely. I did my best, gave 110 per cent. I’ve had two podiums today and I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Racing resumes on Wednesday with the second Relentless Supersport TT.
