Big Weekend: MotoGP, SBK, TT MotoGP is Wet, SBK is Hot, IOM is Moist... It's a big weekend this weekend, with rounds of MotoGP (at Mugelo in Italy), and World Superbikes (at Salt Lake City in America) and TT Week on the Isle of Man starting with the Superbike race on Saturday. MotoGP – Mugello Fastest in today's wet second free practice session (the only qualifying session will be held tomorrow) at Mugello was Chris Vermuelen, half a second ahead of Nicky Hayden, with Stoner, Rossi and Toseland making up the top five. Hopkins had topped this morning's first free practice session with a slightly faster time, ahead of Capirossi, West, De Angelis and Nakano. Scott Redding was second quickest in the first 125 qualifying session, just behind provisional pole sitter Pol Espargo. Pasini is on provisional pole position for the 250s. The BBC will be showing MotoGP qualifying and the 125 and 250 on various random digital channels, with the MotoGP race on BBC2 on Sunday. Probably. WorldSBK – Salt Lake City The World Superbike championship is making its first trip to Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA this weekend. There's no news on the first qualifying sessions yet because Utah is five hours behind the UK. The event will be a WorldSBK / AMA Superbikes double bill, and will also see the debut of former World Endurance Champion Jason Pridmore in World Superbikes. He has signed for the rest of the season with Alto Evolution Honda, replacing Luca Morelli. Pridmore: “Being in World Superbike is like a dream come true. I am feeling re-motivated and excited to be here.”

Here's what the official SBK website has to say about the circuit: “Miller Motorsports Park is a state-of-the-art road racing facility and is considered the finest of its type in North America. The MMP track has four different configurations, ranging from two different 2.2-mile circuits (East and West Courses) to the 3.08-mile Perimeter/Outer Course, which will be used for World Superbike, and the 4.5-mile Full Course for the supporting AMA Superbike double-header event. “The 3500-foot main straightaway allows the fastest cars and motorcycles to approach 200 mph before braking for Turn 1. The Outer Course eliminates the entire infield section and is one of the fastest track layouts in North America. While the track is basically flat, the design incorporates several elevation changes in order to add character, challenge and unparalleled sightlines for spectators.” Follow World Superbikes on WorldSBK.com Isle of Man TT TT Week starts tomorrow, with the 6 lap TT Superbike race and 3 lap TT Sidecar A race. Yesterday evening saw the first proper dry practice session, with Guy Martin (17:48.84 / 127.080mph) quickest in Superbike, ahead of John McGuinness and Ryan Farquhar. Steve Plater was 16th, with Phase One's Jimmy Moore 53rd. Micheal Dunlop did not complete his first lap on the Phase One Yamaha, after suffering “machine problems”.
Ryan Farquhar Farquhar beat Martin in Superstock, while Anstey beat Farquhar in Supersport, with Plater third. Dave Molyneux and Dan Sayle were the quickest sidecar crew.
