Valencia – WorldSBK Race 1 and 2 – WSS – Summary Neukirchner Mugged in Race 1 – Haga Holds Out in Race 2... World Superbike Race 1 WorldSBK race one was won by Lorenzo Lanzi (Ducati) , with Bayliss (Ducati) second and Corser (Yamaha) third. The race was a total crash-fest as riders struggled with front-end grip on a cool track. Amongst those crashing were GMT94's Sebastien Gimbert, Yukio Kagayama, Nori Haga, Michel Fabrizio, Riyuichi Kiyonari and Reuben Xaus. However, the biggest disappointment came after Carlos Checa clipped the back of race leader Max Neukirchner on the final corner of the final lap. Checa rejoined the race to finish 15th but Neukirchner suffered a broken collarbone and had to sit out race two. Kagaymama took an early lead but faded through the race to finish sixth. Checa took and held first place after a mid-race charge but slipped back and then recovered after his traction control developed a fault. Haga had passed Bayliss to take the lead, and then caught and re-passed Checa, managing to hold on to his lead to take the win. Kiyonari also pushed through the field in the latter stages of the race, finishing fourth.
