World Endurance Testing: Almeria and Albacete YART, Phase One and Folch Prepare for 2008 Season... Several world endurance teams have just returned from testing at the Spanish circuits of Almeria and Albacete. Both Yamaha Phase One Endurance and Yamaha Austria – using Dunlop tyres for the first time – declared themselves happy with results.
Glen Richards, Phase One, Almeria
Phase One's “test riders” Glen Richards and Guy Martin recorded a best time of 1:40.04 at Almeria, with Yamaha Austria's Steve Martin, Steve Plater and recovering Igor Jerman recording similar times. Using a 2007 engine said to be 15bhp down on the one they will race with this season, the Austrian team found immediate improvements on last year's times with the new tyres and declared themselves happy despite a crash by Steve Plater. Phase One's best time at Albacete was a 1:32.6, which would have been good enough for second place on the gird at last year's Albacete round of the championship. In a race simulation, Richards was able to run 1:33s, with Pedro Valcaneras running similar times on the Folch Yamaha and his team mate Ribalta only slightly slower. Phase One were also demonstrating Light Tape's “electro-luminescent” race numbers, shown below.
