Phase One's “test riders” Glen Richards and Guy Martin recorded a best time of 1:40.04 at Almeria, with Yamaha Austria's Steve Martin, Steve Plater and recovering Igor Jerman recording similar times.

Using a 2007 engine said to be 15bhp down on the one they will race with this season, the Austrian team found immediate improvements on last year's times with the new tyres and declared themselves happy despite a crash by Steve Plater.

Phase One's best time at Albacete was a 1:32.6, which would have been good enough for second place on the gird at last year's Albacete round of the championship. In a race simulation, Richards was able to run 1:33s, with Pedro Valcaneras running similar times on the Folch Yamaha and his team mate Ribalta only slightly slower.
