Part-timers SRC Kawasaki were fastest in yesterday's firsr qualifying session, with an averate time across their three riders of 1:58.883. SERT Suzuki were second quickest on 1:59.055, YART Yamaha were third (1:1:59.138), FCC TSR Honda fourth (1:59.138) and Honda Endurance Racing fifth (1:59.244).
Two other teams recorded averages in the 1:59s; Tecmas BMW and reigning FIM Endurance World Champions GMT94 Yamaha. Fastest STK team was Yamaha Viltais Experience in eighth place with an average time of 2:00.217.
Remember that qualifying times and grid positions are based on the average time of all three riders in a team, rather than the fastest outright lap of a team. That honour went to Randy de Puniet on the SRC Kawasaki, with a time of 1:57.532; he was the only rider in the 1:57s.
In yesterday evening's night practice session, honours went to SERT Suzuki with a best lap of 2:00.358. FCC TSR Honda were second fastest (2:00.393) with SRC Kawasaki third (2:00.478), Tecmas BMW fourth (2:00.868) and GMT94 Yamaha fifth (2:00.881). These closer times are perhaps more representative of those we will see in the race.
