Bol Live: Timing Sheets: www.orion-timing.com - www.motorevue.com/site/accueil.html Orange Sport TV:http://orange-sport.orange.fr/grille-des-programmes/orange-sport.html Bol Official Site:www.boldor.com/endurance-moto.html Bol d'Or: Race Round Up Congratulations to SERT, winner of the Bol d'Or and the first round of the 2011 World Endurance Championship. 814 laps completed at an average speed of 149.57 km/h. SRC Kawassaki were second on 808 laps, BMW MOtorrad France were third on 803 lpas, Bolliger Kawasaaki were fourth on 802 laps, and Honda TT Legends were fifth on 796 laps, two laps ahead of National Motos Honda. Suzuki, Kawasaki, BMW, Kasawaki and Honda; four marques in the top five. First Yamaha home was Folch Endurance (789 laps) in 7th place, just ahead of GMT94 Yamaha, with Metiss JLC Moto first 'open' class bike home in 9th overall, and T Motors Events first Superstock bike to finish, in tenth overall. YART went out with engine problems; initially a reported loss of power then white smoke coming from the engine. Head gasket / overheating, perhaps? Giabbani also had "a little crash" at the beginning of the race. BMW Motorrad snapped a drive chain, losing two laps. Sapeurs Pompiers, LMS72 and Moto45 all crashed out. Bol d'Or: FIM Press Release This just in from the FIM: Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, undisputed winner at the Bol d’Or
The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team took the victory with a six laps margin, at the end of a race started and led until the end on a infernal pace by the top teams. This is the fourth consecutive win for the SERT at the Bol d’Or, which immediately takes an advantage in the QTel FIM Endurance World Championship with the 35 points for the win. On the official Suzuki, Vincent Philippe (who equalled the record of wins with seven victories at the Bol d’Or), Anthony Delhalle and Freddie Foray took the lead as from the start. Only the Team SRC Kawasaki could fight for the lead in the beginning of the race. The team of Gilles Stafler and his three riders, Julien da Costa, Gregory Leblanc and Olivier Four, took the brand-new ZX-10R to the end. Until the last minute, the third degree of the podium was the target of a hard-fought duel between the BMW Motorrad France 99 and the Bolliger Team Switzerland Kawasaki. The factory BMW, focusing on the relays of its two fastest riders, Sébastien Gimbert and Erwan Nigon, ended winning this fight. It is the first podium for the S1000RR in the QTel FIM Endurance World Championship. Entered last year, it was only noted in qualifying practice or in the beginning of the races. The BMW Motorrad France 99 made it real, despite problems of brakes and fuel tank – which obliged to shorter relays – and a last minute change of the technical crew. Reformed around Steven Casaer, it showed all its efficiency. The Bolliger Team Switzerland Kawasaki, private team runner-up in the 2010 Qtel IM Endurance World Championship, proved once again that it will have to be taken into account in 2011, with Horst Saiger, Roman Stamm and Jérôme Tangre. The podium of this 75th Bol d’Or is thus composed of three different manufacturers, Suzuki, Kawasaki and BMW, and three tyre manufacturers, Dunlop, Pirelli and Michelin. Behind this group of four, another fight opposed two Hondas. The factory machine of the Honda TT Legends, with Steve Plater, John McGuinness and Keith Amor, ended winning against the private team of the Paris dealer National Motos with Emeric Jonchière, Lucas de Carolis and Etienne Masson. Then two Yamahas follow in the classification: the Spanish one of the YMES Folch Endurance of Dani Ribalta, Pedro Vallcañeras and José Luis Rita and the factory machine of the Yamaha Racing France GMT 94 Ipone. Among the top teams, it dropped down the classification after less than one hour of race following a crash of Kenny Foray, and came back to eighth place thanks to a superb race of David Checa, Kenny Foray and Mathieu Lagrive. The Metiss JLC Moto, only motorcycle left in the Open Class, made a very good race finishing in ninth position. The Superstock class was won by the Team Motor Events Bodyguard AMT always in the leading group of this class, ahead of the Atomic Motorsport team and the Team Van Zon Boenig Motorsportschool Penz RT. The record of the number of laps covered was almost equalled, with 814 - against 815 laps covered by the SERT winner in 2009 - thanks to good atmospheric conditions and only one intervention of the safety cars on Saturday evening. Thirty-five teams were able to reach the chequered flag of this 75th Bol d’Or. Concerning the retirements, the first to be noted is the Monster Yamaha YART in the early morning following a broken engine. The Austrian Yamaha was in the leading trio since the start of the race. Another unlucky leader was the team AM Moto Racing Compétition which left the race in the middle of the night following a crash of Kevin Denis. The Suzuki 110, leading the Superstock class since the second hour of racing, was too much damaged. Before this, the Junior Team LMS, another top team of the class, had met the same fate with the crash of Baptiste Guittet. A crash also stopped the good race of the Suzuki RT Motovirus Racing in the top 15. The Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers was not able to finish its first race on a BMW following a crash, as well as the Suzukis Endurance Moto 45 and Motobox Kremer Racing by Shell Advance. Broken engines eliminated the Maco Racing Team which was running in the top 10 until 9.00 pm, and Team FMA Assurances – broken connecting rod during the night. The next round (8 Hours) of the 2011 Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship will be held in Albacete, Spain, on Saturday 21 May. Bol d'Or: Qualifying, Night Practice and Warm Up Qualifying: No surprise to see SERT Suzuki (1:40.589 average)at the top of the grid, with Vincent Philippe the fastest man on the track and the only rider in the 1:39s after he put in a best of 1:39.740. SRC Kawasaki (1:40.713 average) are second, with Da Costa and Leblanc both faster than two of the SERT riders. On track, in the actual race, they may be able to match SERT over 24 hours; SERT manager Dominique Meliand will be watching them. BMW Motorrad France are third, with an average time of 1:40.800; less than a tenth off second and only just over two tenths off pole. The top three are all close enough to make the 2011 Bol set to be a bloody fight. The two top Yamaha teams, YART (1:41.191 average) and GMT94 (1:41.499 average), are close enough to take advantage of any problems the top three might pick up while chasing each other. French dealer team National Motos Honda are sixth on 1:42.548 and the great British hope Honda TT Legends are seventh on 1:42.879. The British team is managed by Neil Tuxworth and features some former Phase One crew amongst their number, but their lead rider Steve Plater (1:41.680) is nearly two seconds a lap quicker than his team mates John McGuinness (1:43.447) and Keith Amor (1:43.510). Plater's time is typical of the riders in teams a few places ahead of him, while McGuinness and Amor will be lapping at the speed of rides in teams several places down the grid. They're a new team that we could just be watching settle down, but at the moment it looks as though they'd need three Steve Platers to challenge for a top five finish. Sadly, I'm not at the track to confirm how they're getting on, so we'll be watching the timing screen with interest. In other news, the Sapeurs Pompiers have switched from Suzuki to BMW for this season (insert your own joke about 'getting on like a house on fire', 'burning up the track', etc here), LMS72 Suzuki are fastest SuperStock team, and the sole Aprilia RSV4 team -Le Mans 2 Roues - have qualified in 39th place. Night Practice: Do the night practice times mean much? Yamaha Austria will be hoping that their more representative of the race than qualifying, with Mandy Kainz's team putting in the fastest time of 1: 42.039, ahead of SRC Kawasaki on 1:42.365, SERT on 1:42.547, and BMW Motorrad France on 1:42.614; those three teams are building up to an epic race. National Motos were a second or so adrift, followed by GMT94, Bolliger Kawasaki, Honda TT Legends and Folch Yamaha, with Maco Moto Yamaha rounding out the top ten. Warm Up: Another close session, but perhaps less competitive this time round with this afternoon's race start time looming. The top two teams were in the 1:41s.
