Suzuka 8 Hour Round Up

Champ Standings – What We Missed...

We've now published the various official and unofficial championship standings

The Endurance FIM World Championship – Official

A swarm of Japanese teams have now scored points in the official FIM world Championship standings. Despite SERT Suzuki's poor showing with only 2 points brought home from Japan, they still hold a comfortable 20 point lead over second placed SERT No.2.

With just 30 points available at this weekend's Oschersleben 8 Hour race, the only team who can possibly challenge SERT Suzuki for the championship lead are Bolliger Kawasaki. This would need a race win by Bolliger and a DNF for SERT Suzuki. Neither are impossible (and both have happened before at Osch) but we suspect there's more chance of the No.11 Dream Honda of Kiyonari and Checa turning up for free practice at Osch on Wednesday.

SERT Suzuki and series newcomers Folch Yamaha are the only two teams to have scored points in every round.

In the Superstock Endurance FIM World Cup, Moto45 have moved up to third place ahead of LMS Suzuki, and second placed LTG57 Yamaha have closed on leaders QERT Suzuki. QERT, LTG57, Moto45 and Runner Bike Kawasaki have all scored in every round so far.

The Race24 Trophy – Unofficial

With all the points scorers at Suzuka coming from the Formula EWC class, there's little change in the Race24 Trophy, where teams compete regardless of race class. QERT are hanging on in 7th place against the Formula WEC teams despite not finishing in the top 15 overall at Suzuka, but what we really need are some Open or Superstock bikes to go welll at Oschserleben. Looking at the entry list (more news tomorrow) we might be in luck...

The Rider24 Trophy – Unofficial

Race24 Message Board regular Marc from Spain has compiled the standings for each individual rider so far this year; henceforth known as the Rider24 Trophy. Julien Da Costa is leading Vincent Philippe by two points after Philippe's injury at Suzuka put him on an early flight home. Will he race at Oschersleben, we wonder?

What We Missed

We were so busy staring at the Suzuka timing screens in the thirty minutes of the race that we completely failed to spot Kiyonari's total lack of any front brake pads in his final session of the race. Sparks were clearly visible as they showered from the front disc of the No.11 HRC Dream Honda every time he hit the brakes, but we missed it. Sorry. We'll pay attention at Osch, honest.
