Qualifying: Ito Snatches Provisional Pole for FCC TSR

Qualifying

Listed below are the top five fastest riders from each team from all of today's qualifying sessions:

  • 1st 2 FCC TSR Honda, Ito, 2:07.657
  • 2nd 12 Yoshimura Suzuki, Sakai, 2:07.984
  • 3rd 34 Yoshimura Suzuki, Akiyoshi, 2:08.284
  • 4th 218 Yamaha Racing, Nakasuga, 2:08.290
  • 5th 11 HRC Dream Honda, Kiyonari, 2:08.626

    Rather than averaging the riders' times from each team to produce the starting grid, the qualifying positions will be based on the best time of the fastest rider from each team. We think.

    The top ten qualifiers will go through to the Top Ten Trial special stage tomorrow afternoon, to decide the final starting order.

    Permanent Teams

    Qualifying for the permanent teams was all about the fight between Bolliger and YART, with SERT Suzuki comfortably ahead. Damian Cudlin for Phase One put in a quick lap at the end of his final session to improve his time by almost two seconds, moving clear of rivals Maco Moto and Foch but falling short of catching Yamaha Austria.

    QERT Suzuki are the top Stocksport team. Diabo, Moto38 and RMT21 are also all close on times.

    Night racing: Cool Sakurai Honda, Tsuda

    Night Practice

    The two HRC Dream Hondas were fastest in night practice, with times of 2:10.592 for the No.33 bike of Rea and Takahashi, and 2:11.197 for the No.11 bike of Kiyonari and Checa.

    The No.12 Yoshimura Suzuki of Sakai and Watanabe was third on 2:11.535, with The No.71 Sakurai Honda (Tsuda, Brookes, 2:11.837) fourth and the No.34 Yoshimura Suzuki (Kagayama, Akiyoshi, 2:12.056) fifth. SERT Suzuki were tenth overall in night practice, on 2:14.339.

    It's worth pointing out that the night practice session lasted almost twice as long as the actual night portion of the race will last on Sunday…
