SERT Suzuki Fifth in Group B - Safety Car Kept Busy...

Group A or Group B, That is the Question

Because of the number of teams entered for the Suzuka 8 Hour, all the practice and qualifying sessions leading up to the Superpole "Top Ten Trial" are divided into two groups, A and B, with teams allocated to groups by a draw held on Wednesday evening.

Supplementary Practice

The first two track sessions for each group were "supplementary practice" and so untimed. For most teams these sessions were used to shake-out bike problems and give new riders the chance to learn the track.

Johnny Rea on the No.33 HRC Dream Honda still managed to crash heavily during the Group A second session, but was not seriously hurt.

Timed Free Practice

This afternoon has finished with timed free practice sessions for both groups.

In group A, the No.12 Yoshimura Suzuki (Sakai, Watanabe) banged in a stunningly quick 2:08.603 lap right at the start of the session, later bettering this with a 2:08.284. Second quickest was the No.34 Yoshimura Suzuki (Akiyoshi, Kagayama) on 2:09.499, with the No.33 Dream Honda (Rea, Takahashi, Teshima - 2:10.636)) third, Moriwaki (Yamahguchi, Crutchlow, O'Halloran - 2:11.028) fouth and the No.10 Sakurai Honda (Kameya, Haslam - 2:11.296) fifth.

In group B, The No.11 Dream Honda (Kiyonari, Checa) took the early lead with a time of 2:09.046, before slipping into third place behind the Yamaha Racing R1 of Sato, Nakasuga and Takeda (2:08.320) and the No.2 FCC TSR of Tsujimura and Ito on 2:08.536. Fourth fastest was the No.6 FCC TSR of Iwata, Kikuchi and Matoba on 2:10.668, with SERT Suzuki in an excellent fifth place with a time of 2:11.179.

Both sessions were interrupted by the safety car being called out; despite this being "free practice" the pressure is already on.
