Albacete 6H: Provisional Unofficial Pole for Maco Moto

If tomorrow's third rider session is wet - If...

The grid positions for tomorrow's race will be calculated on the average of the best time recorded by each rider for each team.

Because today's session for the third riders was wet, the average lap times for all the teams with three riders are slower than they would have been if the third rider's session was dry.

So for Kawasaki France, the average time was:
(1:31.524 + 1:31.605 + 1:46.433) / 3 = 1:36.521

And for SERT Suzuki, the average time was:
(1:31.315 + 1:34.085 + 1:47.208) / 3 = 1:37.536

You might think that this would give Kawasaki France provisional pole position, but two teams (Maco Moto and Moto Virus) only have two riders. This means that the times they have recorded for qualifying were all set in dry sessions.

So for Maco Moto, the average time was:
(1:33.762 + 1:35.603) / 2 = 1:34.682

And for Moto Virus, the average time was:
(1:34.680 + 1:37.005) / 2 = 1:35.842

So *if* tomorrow's third rider session is another wet one, and *if* Maco Moto choose to only run two riders in the race, it looks as though they have taken pole position by not running a third rider in qualifying.

Moto Virus could take second on the grid for the same reason.

(And thank you to Yamaha Austria's team manager Mandy Kainz for pointing this statistical anomaly out for us!)

Fastest on average... Maco Moto Yamaha, Warwick Nowland
