Albacete 6H: Last Year's Race TKF, SERT, Folch – YART and Phase One Tangle... The 100,000 strong crowd packing the grandstands around the historic circuit roared as seventy riders drawn from the world's leading race series sprinted across the track to their waiting machines... Oh no, sorry, that was Suzuka. Here we go; 2007 Albacete 6 Hour Taking advantage of home track knowledge, Mazuecos took the lead for Kawasaki France in the first hour of the race, quickly opening a gap on the SERT Suzuki, with the Spanish run Qatar Racing Team Kawasaki (Cardoso, Silva, Al Naimi) close behind. Yamaha Austria’s Scarnato and Yamaha Phase One’s Van Keymeulen tangled while fighting for third place early in the race, leaving FCC TSR Honda – competing in their first European endurance race – to move up into the top five. Local experts Folch Yamaha are always strong performers at Albacete, and they finished third behind Kawasaki France and SERT Suzuki, with Qatar Kawasaki fourth and Swiss Kawasaki team Bolliger fifth. FCC TSR finished in a strong sixth place, showing that Suzuka 8 Hour experience is just as valid outside Japan, with Yamaha Austria ninth and Yamaha Phase One a disappointing 18th. 2006 Race Result
There were 41 teams on the grid for last year's Albacete 6H. Just 29 are entered so far for this year's race. We'll be there tomorrow with news from the first qualifying sessions.
Shortly after the start, Vankeymeulen (left) and Scarnato were able to continue their conversation in the gravel trap
