Yoshimura No.34 Wins Suzuka 8 Hour

The Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 of Kagayama and Akiyoshi has won the 30th Suzuka 8 Hour race, beating Honda's ten year run of race victories. The last non-Honda to win the race was the Yamaha of Edwards and Haga in 1996. Suzuki's last 8 Hour win was with the GS1000 of Moineau and Hubin in 1983.

    No34 Yoshi is one lap clear of the chasing pack, but 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place are all on the same lap.

    SERT Suzuki have passed FCC TSR Eurosport and pulled a lap clear. The only points scoring bike ahead of these two is the FCC TSR No.788 in third place.

    Phase One are two laps clear of Bolliger but one lap down on the Zoil Trickstar Kawasaki in front of them. Diablo have slipped back to within reach of Moto38 and RMT21, and Amadeus X One have slipped down to 43rd place, just ahead of Yamaha Austria.

    No change at the top of the field, but the Yoshi Suzuki is within a few seconds of lapping the second palced Honda. SERT have closed to within 13 seconds of FCC TSR Eurosport after having been a lap down for the last few hours. Amadeus X One have climbed up the field to 36th place, in front of Zone Rouge.

    Yamaha Austria are up to 44th (12th in the points) on 146 laps.

    The top five seem to be stabilising; it'll be a real coup for Yoshimura (and Suzuki) to win the Suzuka 8 hour if they can hold off the challenge from Checa and Okada who are just under a lap behind.

    Diablo are also making an excellent showing, climbing steadily and reeling in Bolliger and Phase One. Yamaha Austria are up to 50th place, on 120 laps.
