Suzuka 8H Special Stage and Grid - Checa Pole with 2:07.587 The fastest ten teams in qualifying for the Suzuka 8H took part in the Special Stage Attack and Jump Up today to decide the starting order for tomorrow's race. In front of packed grandstands (Probably; I'm in Cambridge so have no idea what actually happened) the slowest riders from each of the top ten teams had the first go at setting a quick time with a single flying lap in the Attack stage. Carlos Checa on the No.33 HRC Honda was clearly the fastest of the first ten riders, with a time of 2:07.587. He was the only rider to dip into the 2:07s, with only Akiyoshi on the No.34 Yoshimura Suzuki coming close with a 2:08.124. Checa's team mate Okada did not record a time in the Jump Up stage for the second set of ten riders. Nakasuga on the No.21 Yamaha recorded a 2:07.806 and Kagayama (No.34 Yoshimura Suzuki) a 2:07.969, but all eyes were on provisional pole sitter James Toseland on the No.11 HRC Honda as he set out to beat Checa's time. Toseland's best in qualifying was a 2:08.352, but despite bettering that time with a 2:08.035 it was not enough to beat Checa and take pole. The provisional grid for tomorrow's race is therefore as follows: |

Only 70 machines will start the race; the maximum permitted for safety by the organisers. All of the permanent teams are guaranteed a start and eight other machines have also been put forward by the local organisers, explaining the difference between the starting grid and the list of qualifying times posted yesterday. www.mobilityland.co.jp/result_s/2007/8tai/index.html
