Suzuka 8 Hour First Qualifying Summary Philippe Puts SERT 16th - Kagayama and Checa Lap in 2:08s We haven't received the combined qualifying results yet, but we do know which rider was quickest on which bike. Below are the (unofficial) top 18 fastest times from the first sessions. It's usual suspects at the top, with Kagayama fastest on the Yoshimura Suzuki, ahead of the HRC Honda's of Checa and Kiyonari. James Toseland lapped in the 2:09s but could not match his team mate Kiyonari, while Jonny Rea has been demoted to reserve rider in favour of Tady Okada. SERT Suzuki's Vincent Philippe has put the GSX-R1000 into 16th place, the quickest of the permanent teams, and ahead of FCC TSR Eurosport's local circuit specialist Iwata in 18th place. Sadly, now that the special stage Attack and Jump Up Superpole is restricted to the top ten teams, we won't see any of the permanent teams in action tomorrow. I haven't had time (Ok, I couldn't be bothered: 81 teams, 200 and something riders…) to calculate the positions of the rest of the permanent teams, but here is how they compare to each other: Although Yamaha Austria are one second behind SERT and FCC TSR, they are almost a second clear of Moto38, a second and half clear of Phase One, QERT and Bolliger , and two and a half seconds clear of the rest of the permanent pack. The only rider not to qualify in his group was Moto45's Levrel, who missed the cut-off by 0.25 seconds; his team mates Jallneau and Louvel have both qualified. Hopefully we can bring you the full qualifying positions later today…. www.mobilityland.co.jp/result_s/2007/8tai/index.html
