Qatar 8 Hour - Race Report Hour 8 - Provisional Result SERT 1st, YART 2nd, QERT 3rd, Sapeurs Pompiers 4th, Amadeus X One 5th... SERT Suzuki have won the Qatar 8 Hour race after an epic seven hour climb though the field following a crash in the first hour. They finally took the lead 40 minutes before the end of the race after Yamaha Austria pitted for their final fuel and tyre stop. QERT Kawasaki were third, two laps ahead of the first SuperProduction bike across the line, the Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers Suzuki. Italian/American squad Amadeus X One took fifth place overall and were second SuperProduction bike, with Endurance Moto38 sixth and the prototype BMW Motorrad twin seventh overall. Suzuki Sweden were eighth, holding off Yamaha Phase One who fought back from dead last after being punted off by SERT Suzuki while leading the first hour of the race. Rounding out the top ten was the Maco Moto Yamaha, ahead of the first SuperStock bike to finish, Team LTG57's Yamaha.
Time to sink a few "Ice Cold" beers, I think...
Provisional Result:
From a distance it certainly seems that the first Qatar 8 Hour race has been a great success; congratulations to all involved. PDF Results: www.ris-timing.be/circuit/8hdoha/2007/index.htm Hour 6 and 7 YART 1st, SERT 2nd, QERT 3rd, Sapeurs Pompiers 4th, Moto38 5th ... SERT Suzuki have moved up to second place and are hot on the heels of Yamaha Austria; the gap is currently about 28 seconds, with SERT lapping about four seconds a lap quicker and an hour of racing still to go. Amadeus X One have slipped to 6th place, behind the Sapeurs Pompiers and Moto38; these three SuperProduction teams seem locked in their own battle which is set to run to the end of the race. The BMW Motorrad team are up to seventh overall, in front of Suzuki Sweden, Team LTG57 and the recovering Maco Moto. Yamaha Phase One are in 11th place and are slowly reeling in Maco Moto. Update from the Circuit What happened to SERT Suzuki, Yamaha Phase One and Bolliger Kawasaki in the first hour? We've just had this report from Foggy in the Phase One pit box: "Phase One's Steve Plater took the lead from the start and held it quite comfortably. SERT Suzuki's Vincent Phillipe saw a small gap inside a backmarker and tried to finish the stint in lead by passing Plater. Unfortunately he parked his bike in the side of the Phase One Yamaha, taking them both out! Bolliger initially had rear spindle trouble, and have also just had to change their clutch." Hour 4 and 5 YART 1st, QERT 2nd, SERT 3rd, Amadeus X One 4th, RT Racing Moto Virus 5th ... SERT Suzuki have climbed to third place and are now just two laps behind leaders Yamaha Austria and one lap behind second place QERT Kawasaki. Behind these three, leading SuperProduction teams Amadeus X One and RT Racing Moto Virus appear to be having a smooth race… but there are a couple of hour to go! Yamaha Phase One have made their way to 15th place but are still nine laps down on the leaders. Boilliger Kawasaki's climb back has faltered, with the team now in 21st place, just behind Maco Moto who had been comfortably in the top five. Hour 2 and 3 YART 1st, QERT 2nd, RT Racing Moto Virus 3rd, Sapeurs Pompiers 4th, Amadeus X One 5th... After the first round of stops Diablo had moved up to third place, behind Yamaha Austria and QERT Kawasaki, with Maco Moto fourth and Sapeurs Pompiers fifth. Diablo's podium position did not last long, however, and they are currently in the pits, seventeen laps behind the leaders and in second to last place. RMT21 Honda, who had also risen to third place earlier in the race, seem to have retired. Bolliger Kawasaki are up to 12th place, SERT Suzuki to 15th place and Yamaha Phase One to 20th place. None of these three have managed to close the gap on the leaders. Hour 1 YART 1st, QERT 2nd, RMT21 3rd, Diablo 4th, Maco Moto 5th... Drama in the first hour at Qatar, with SERT Suzuki, Kawasaki Bolliger and Yamaha Phase One all dropping to the bottom of the rankings after an incident on lap 21 forced all three to pit. Bolliger were the first to rejoin, having lost three laps on the leaders. They were followed by SERT, now four laps down on the front of the field, and then Phase One who have lost a total of nine laps. While this was going on, Yamaha Austria seized the opportunity to take the lead from QERT Kawasaki on lap 29 and make the most of the misfortune of their championship rivals. YART's Steve Martin is currently the quickest man on the track as he stretches away from second placed QERT. Behind them RMT21 Honda are third, Diablo Kawasaki fourth and Yamaha Maco Moto fifth.
