Oschersleben 24 Hour - Race Round Up Fastest Laps, New Names, Pit Time, Quotes Fastest Race Lap Times A quick scan of the fastest race laps set during the race makes interesting reading. Here are the top ten times: At the start of the season we all expected Kawasaki France to be right up there with SERT Suzuki, but it's very encouraging to see both Yamaha Austria and Yamaha Phase One able to put in faster laps than the reigning world endurance champions. Admittedly SERT were never really under pressure thanks to choosing the right tyres for the first stint, but I can't believe that Vincent Philippe and Matthieu Lagrive weren't looking at the lap times during the race and trying to beat them. Stand Up and Be Recognized Some new names emerged during the Oschersleben weekend, and I think we'll be seeing some more of this lot, either at the Bol d'Or or in Qatar. Pedro Valcaneras Pedro was drafted into the Phase One team at very short notice, and despite never having raced outside Spain before the Folch Endurance rider quickly settled into the team, learned the bike and the track and made his mark on the race.

Dario rode for Diablo Kawasaki after the team evaluated Bolliger reserve Eric Mizera and their original third man Olivier Ulmann. Despite his in-at-the-deep-end introduction, he was a real asset to the team. AM Moto Racing Competition

The French Suzuki squad qualified in eleventh place but quickly made their way into the top five, only dropping down the rankings after hitting fuel injector problems. Hopefully they'll be back for the Bol with some better luck. BMW Motorrad Motorsport

Le Mans wasn't a one-off, then. Two bikes entered, two bikes finished, and both ended the race in the top ten. Oschersleben might suit bikes with less power, but it's a circuit that's notoriously tough on engines and gearboxes. The BMWs might have been a couple of seconds off the pace of the fastest, but they outlasted a lot of more experienced teams. Time in the Pits SERT Suzuki only spent fifteen and a half minutes in pit lane during the 24 hour race. Incredible. The only teams to come close were BMW No.71 (16:14 minutes) and Jadoul Kawasaki (18:34 minutes).
SERT Suzuki: Best in the business...
Even more remarkable is the fact that SERT squeezed 23 stops into their 15 minutes and 35 seconds, compared to BMW and Jadoul's 20. The team to make the fewest stops was BMW No.17 with 19 visits to pitlane, accounting for 21 minutes of stoppage. Kawasak France finished the race 18 minutes and 55 seconds behind SERT Suzuki, but spent just under 38 minutes in the pits. If they could have matched SERT in pit lane as well as on the track, they'd have finished the race 4 minutes in front. Rider Quotes Damian Cudlin: "What a race. I've never been so on the edge on my seat at the end of a 24hour race, but this one had me going right until the end. It was a pretty emotional race for us! "It's great to be on the box again after such a tough season, and I'm really as happy for everyone in the YART squad who have worked so hard to get the results as I am for myself. Steve (Martin) was great to work with again, and Igor showed me that he's one of toughest blokes I know after climbing back on the bike and racing a 24 hour after that crash. Endurance really is a team sport and this race showed the real spirit of an Endurance race and of the YART team."

Warwick Nowland: "During the night, I caught and passed Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha Austria. I remember at 7am on Sunday morning my lap times were very fast and I thought we should be making in-roads but for some reason we weren't. It's frustrating when you are as fast or faster, and you are passing the opposition on the track but not catching them! "I started thinking, oh dear, not third again at Oschersleben… But that looked to be the case until I started to get a strange feeling from the clutch. One lap later I had no clutch pressure and then it got noisy. The nut that holds the clutch basket onto the gearbox shaft had come loose. Basically, the clutch came away from the gearbox. The team replaced the nut and put a new clutch in as well. I went back out but I was back in within a lap. The new clutch was slipping. "Once that was fixed, we had dropped to tenth place and I still had hope of getting back to fifth or maybe fourth place. Around seven or eight laps later, the bike lost power and the next lap there was a bad noise. I came back to the pits knowing very well this time was the last. When the clutch came away from the gearbox, the oil pump drive was disturbed and that caused a crankshaft failure. "It's sad for the whole team and really has finished our championship fight. I have to thank everyone for trying their best, especially my team mates. It's a tough circuit on the body. Congratulations to the winners, they weren't the fastest on the track but the package was the best." Next Race The next race is the Bol'Dor 24H at Magny Cours on the 15/16th of September.
